A lovely example of a ships radio room clock. Weimar, German Democratic Republic.
Following the sinking of the Titanic, the Radio Act of 1912 required 24 hour radio watches. The disaster also led to the advent of the radio room clock featuring 3 minute periods marked on the clock face in red. These 3 minute periods indicated radio silence when only emergency radio messages could be transmitted on the 500 kcs. distress frequency.
This clock has been salvaged from a breakers yard in India.
170mm diameter, 60 mm deep.
Condition is vintage.
